Dental Cosmetic Operation:Dental ‘Veneer’This treatment can repair teeth that are discolored, worn down, chipped or broken, misaligned or irregularly shaped tooth. This shape, spacing and color transformation can correct crowding or replace composite bonding into straight and white teeth with custom-designed shells of tooth-like ceramic material. Regardless of what causes unattractive teeth, dental veneers may solve most or even all of your cosmetic dental issues, including: Worn enamel: Over time, the thin, hard white substance covering your teeth (enamel) may become worn, dulled, and discolored. Such wear and discoloration may be natural or the result of a genetic predisposition; however, it often depends on your consumption habits (soft drink, tea, or coffee consumption, smoking, medication use, etc.). Wear and tear: Teeth naturally wear down as people age. Aged teeth are more likely to have chips, cracks or a generally uneven appearance. Genetics: Certain people may be born with abnormal spacing between the teeth that grows wider as they age. Uneven teeth: Uneven teeth can result from tooth grinding or general wear and tear. The two most common materials used in the manufacture of dental veneers are composite resin and porcelain veneers. The most popular type of veneers is porcelain, which offers a stronger and more durable alternative to its composite counterpart. Composite veneers are also more prone to staining and do not last as long as porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers also offer a more natural looking, translucent appearance. Composite veneers are much cheaper than porcelain veneers in general, but considering that they do not last as long and need replacing more often, they could end up costing more in the long run. Composite work is ideal for small chips, as this treatment preserves more of your natural tooth structure. Both porcelain veneers and composite veneers can be fabricated by a dental technician in a dental laboratory; composite veneers can also be directly fabricated inside your mouth at the dental office.
Dental ‘Tooth Whitening’As a person ages the adult teeth often become darker due to changes in the mineral structure of the tooth, as the enamel becomes less porous. Teeth can also become stained by bacterial pigments, foodstuffs (your regular consumption) and tobacco. Certain antibiotic medications (like tetracycline) can also lead to teeth stains or a reduction in the brilliance of the enamel. “Tooth Whitening”, a common process of discoloration by removing stains and modifying your teeth color through a bleaching process. Our dentist will tell you if you are suitable for the treatment, and will supervise it if you are. First the dentist will put a rubber shield or a gel on your gums to protect the soft tissue. They will then apply the whitening product to your teeth, using a specially made tray which fits into your mouth like a gum-shield. The “active ingredient” in the product is usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. As the active ingredient is broaden down, oxygen gets into the enamel on the teeth and the tooth colour is made lighter. Furthermore, it varies from individual, and also depends on the type of whitening system used. Some people respond very well to teeth whitening and have dramatically whiter teeth as a result, whereas others may notice very little difference at all. Our dentist will be able to advise you on the likely results given your teeth. What are the side effects of teeth whitening? - Some people experience no pain or sensitivity with their teeth. However, the majority of people will experience some kind of sensitivity either during and/or after the initial treatment. Nonetheless, this should settle down after approximately 48 hours though. Our dentist may give you a special gel or mousse to apply to your teeth to help with the sensitivity. It is advisable to avoid hot or cold food and drinks within the first 48 hours of your whitening treatment. DentalCorner offers you one of our most popular teeth-whitening systems, which is ‘Zoom’.
Note: Tooth Whitening is not recommended in children under age of 16 as well as pregnant or lactating women. Tooth whitening does not usually change the color of fillings and other restorative materials. It does not affect porcelain, other ceramics, or dental gold. However, it can slightly affect restorations made with composite materials, cements and dental amalgams. DentureAs a prosthetic device, 'denture' is constructed to replace missing teeth. Dentures can replace all of a patient’s teeth (complete dentures) or only some missing teeth (partial denture). From a dentist’s point of view, missing teeth have greater concerns than just appearance. When teeth are missing, the above teeth might begin erupting into the empty space. A missing tooth can also result in nearby teeth drifting, or tipping, into the open space. Problems in occlusion (bite) can arise, making it difficult to close the mouth or chew. Speech sounds can also be altered if prominent teeth are missing. More important, always question the dentist reason for wanting to replace a missing tooth that is not affecting your lifestyle. Treatment Procedure- Making dentures takes anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months depending on the number of adjustments required. During the first dental visit, our dentist will examine your gums, supporting bone, and remaining teeth to make a recommendation. In some rare cases, oral surgery is performed to correct bony ridges that may interfere with the stability of the denture. Your dentist may suggest extracting remaining teeth and using complete dentures. Once our dentist has decided that dentures are right for you, he or she will make an impression of the gums to identify every ridge and crevice to ensure the best denture fit possible. This is a crucial step that determines the comfort of the final product. If you are receiving a partial denture, your dentist may drill the surface of certain teeth to create “rest” . The final metal framework of your partial denture will fit in these rests and provide support to the denture through your natural teeth. Our dentist will then take further impressions of your mouth and measurements on how your jaws relate to each other. For the following appointment, our dentist will have models, wax forms, and plastic patterns of your future denture ready. You will try them in, and the denture will be assessed for color, shape, and fit before the final denture is cast. You will be given the chance to select the shape, size and color your denture teeth at this stage. New dentures will feel awkward and loose for a few weeks, especially if they are complete dentures. Over that time, your check muscles and tongue learn to keep them in place, and you become comfortable inserting and removing them. This is a unconscious learned process your body simply learns to adapt without you placing any effort. However, if there is an obvious problem, where the denture do not sit properly or impinge on tissue, inform your dentist right away. Denture Care - Brush your gums, tongue and palate every morning with a soft-bristled brush before you insert your dentures to stimulate circulation in your tissues and help remove plaque. When removing dentures at night, brush the dentures carefully to remove any loose debris and plaque then soak them in a cleansing solution. Some people keep their dentures in an ultrasonic cleaner, but this does not replace manual brushing. How long your dentures last depends on many factors including how you take care of them and also how much you use them in terms of general wear and tear. Over time dentures become loose as your gums shrink and your bite changes. When this happens you may need a new set of dentures or in some cases a simple modification of your existing dentures may solve the problem. We recommend getting new dentures every 6-8 years since simple adjustments to old dentures are not enough by that time.
